2x-y=7 2x=7+y y=2x-7 (i) now, x+y=5 (ii) (putting value of y in (ii)) x+2x-7=5 3x=5+7 3x=12 x=12/3 x=4 putting value of x in (i) y=2(4)-7 y=8-7 y=1
