Particles of matter are continuously moving. They possess kinetic energy. Aa the temperature increases, particles move faster. The particles of aroma diffuse in the air and reach to us several meters away. But to get smell of cold food we need to go closer because the particles of aroma move slowly.

At higher temperature molecules diffuse into air at a faster rate and reach longer distances. Hence,the smell of hot sizzling food reaches as quickly even when we are several metres away,but to get the smell of cold food,we have to go close to it.
