If there are 25 teams in a single elimination tournament, how many games does it take to pick a winner? See new answers 13 Answers Shubhankar Sharma, Badminton equipment and Physical Fitness expert and a amateur badminton player Answered 2 years ago · Author has 93 answers and 470.2K answer views 1.)See :- the number of draws are in power of 2, like 1, 2, 4, 8 etc 2.) when you have 25 teams (IT IS NOT A POWER OF 2) 3.) So We’ll take the immediate number next to 25 which is a power of 2. 4.) You guessed it right, it is 32. 5.) And we’ll give 9 Byes in the first round, 6.) So In the First round there will be 32/2 - 9 = 7 Matches (32/2 = the no of draws, or the matches if there were 32 teams) ( 9 is subtracted because 9 teams are getting bye in the first round and Hence will go into second round without playing a single match) 7.) In the second round, All the teams succeeded will be paired with some other team and hence there will be 16 / 2 = 8 Matches. ( 16 teams will succeed in round one (7 (Through playing against other teams) + 9 (teams getting Bye) = 16). ( So the no. of matches will be half of the no. of Teams). 8.) Similarly in the respective rounds, Third Round :- 8/2 = 4 Matches Fourth Round :- 4/2 = 2 Matches Fifth Round :- 2/2 = 1 Matches So it is 7 + 8 + 4 + 2 + 1 = 22 Matches Hope My answer serves the purpose Regards
