Mme. Matilda Loisel was a young, pretty, ordinary yet discontented woman. Though she came from a humble background of clerks, she always dreamt of riches, luxuries, comforts, adorations, elegant dresses, expensive jewels, silver kitchenware and a life of glory. She was quite proud of her beauty and always wanted to be praised. But her very humble existence never went hand in hand with her expensive cravings and therefore, she was always unhappy and angry of her early married life.
