Coming together federation
Independent states join together on their own to form a larger unit is known as Coming together federalism
The central government appears to be more powerful compare to the states in this sort of federation. The sovereignty of the nation is maintained by the central government.
Examples – USA, Australia, Switzerland

 

Holding together federation
When a large country chooses to divide its authority between the member states and the central government, federalism is regarded as holding together federalism.
All constituent states in this form of federation typically have equal powers and to increase their security, all states come together to pool their sovereignty and maintain identity.
Example: India, Spain, Belgium
