The conflict of duties that Gandhi faced was that on the one hand the did not want the set a bad example as a lawbreakers and on the other hand to render for which he had come. He disregarded the order to leave not due to a lack of respect for lawfull authority but out of a higher moral and ethical concern That's all

Answer:
Gandhi told the court that he was involved in a ‘conflict of duties’, i.e. he must not set a bad example by breaking the law (by refusing to comply with the eviction order), but he must also render the humanitarian and national service for which he had come to Champaran.
