Chemicals involved in the reaction are Aluminium turnings, anhydrous tertiary butyl alcohol, 1% Mercury oxide , Benzene ( as solvent).
Al + 3 t-BuOH -----> Al (0-t-Bu)3
[in the presence of heat and Hg2Cl2 in benzene as catalyst]
When aluminium turnings are heated with tertiary butyl alcohol, in the presence of mercury oxide in benzene solvent, Aluminum tertiary butoxide is formed.
