Formal charge is defined as the charge assigned to an atom of a molecule.

In , sulfur is the central atom. Therefore, formula to calculate the formal charge will be as follows.

Formal charge = Valence electrons -

Valence electrons in sulfur are 6 and lone pairs on sulfur are zero. Number of bonded electrons of sulfur are 8.

Therefore, formal charge on sulfur atom will be calculated as follows.

Formal charge = Valence electrons -

                                             = 6 -

                                             = 6 - 4

                                              = 2

Thus, we can conclude that the formal charge on sulfur in is +2.
