There are some tribal communities who use animals as a means of their livelihood. We have seen snake charmers. They make the snakes dance to the tune of their long gourd flute (bin). The practice of catching snakes and training them to perform has traditionally been passed from father to son. For generations, it has provided an important means of support to the families of these communities. Similarly, bears and monkeys are trained by the 'Madaris' for dancing and showing acrobatics at the instruction of their master. Mahouts are the people who drive elephants and train them. They use chains and hooks (ankush) etc to handle and train them. They give elephant rides to people and earn a small amount of money. Circus people are very much dependent on animals for running their show. Animals such as elephants, monkeys, bears are trained to perform and entertain people in the circus.
It is not wrong to use animals to earn a living but one should be very careful towards not making them overwork, giving them enough rest food, clean drinking water, and keeping them in tidy shelters.
