if fertilisation fails no endosperm will formed. thus there will be wastage of energy in the development of endosperm. There is no such provision in gymnosperms. There is, therefore, no wastage of energy on this account in angiosperm

Double fertilisation is found in angiosperm only. In angiosperm female gametophyte abruptly stops its growth at 8 nucleate stage. Further growth of embryo sac occurs only when zygote has been formed and primary endosperm nucleus has been created by triple fusion. The triple fusion initiates the formation of endosperm. The endosperm is formed only when it is needed. The need arises after fertilisation becoz the endosperm provide nutrition for the simultaneously developing embryo

Double fertilization helps angiospermic plants to form both endosperm and embryo simultaneously so that embryo which is future seed get nutrients from the endosperm of embrto sac.
