Circular motion

  • If a body or a particle move in the circular path the motion is said to be a circular motion.
  • In circular motion the particle or a body moves around a point which is not on the particle or the body in the circular motion.
  • Example: a toy train on a circular track has circular motion.

Rotatory Motion

  • The motion of an object is said to be rotatory if the particles of the object rotate in a circular path with respect to an imaginary axis, known as the axis of rotation.
  • The axis of rotation can be either inside or outside the body of the object that is spinning
  • In general, a toy train on a track does not have an axis that it's rotating around, so it would not have rotational motion.
