What is double circulation

The majority of mammals (including humans) utilize a double circulatory system. This means we have two loops in our body in which blood circulates. One is oxygenated, meaning oxygen rich, and the other is deoxygenated, which means it has little to no oxygen, but a lot of carbon dioxide.

In double circulation, blood flows twice through the heart, during each cycle of passage through the body.
Double circulation is important to keep the oxygenated and deoxygenated blood separate from each other in the body and prevent their mixing. Such separation allows a highly efficient supply of oxygen to the body. Another advantage of a double circulatory system is that blood can be pumped to the rest of the body at a higher pressure.
