    The closing and opening of stomata is the role of GUARD CELLS. when water flow into guard cells, they swell up, resulting in the opening of stomata. Similarly, the smata closed when the guard cells shrink when they lose water.

    When it swell up it opens up and closes when shrinked.Swelling means gaining of water and shrinking means loss of water....
