AIDS stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome and is caused by a virus called HIV (Human Immunodeficiency virus). AIDS is the final stage of the infection caused by the HIV virus. This virus mainly effects or damages the immune system of a person (the system which fights against diseases).
A–acquired: it is not inherited from the parents and you can get infected with during your life time.
I–Immune: Your body's immune system includes all the organs and cells that work to fight off infection or disease which weakens the immune system.
D–Deficiency: You get AIDS when your immune system is deficient, means there is weakness in the body’s system that fights the diseases or the immune power of the body is insufficient to fight against diseases.
S–Syndrome: A syndrome is a collection of symptoms and signs of any disease. AIDS is a syndrome, rather than a single disease, as it is a complex illness with a wide range of complications and symptoms.
