Chauth was a regular tax where one-fourth of the total produce was to be paid to the ruler.
Chauth is kind of tax which the small kingdoms or Dynasties have to pay to Marathas in order to protect their territory being invaded and conquered by Marathas.
Chauth is 25% of total revenue generated in the State and it is paid to the Marathas Sardas.
