Most of the metal sulphides are insoluble in water. Therefore, they cannot be washed away from rocks and occur mostly in rocks. On the other hand, the metal halides (MgCl2, NaCl) are mostly soluble in water. Therefore, they are washed away with rain or river water and get collected in seas.
