Soaps : 1.Soaps are sodium or potassium salts of long chain carboxylic acids. 2.Soaps have lesser cleansing action or quality as compared to detergents. 3.Soaps are made from animal or plant fats. 4.Soaps are more biodegradable. 5.Soaps form an insoluble substance called scum on reacting with hard water. Detergents : 1.Detergents are ammonium or solphonate salts of long chain carboxylic acids. 2.Detergents have better cleansing action as compared to soaps. 3.Detergents are made from petrochemicals. 4.Detergents are less biodegradable. 5.Detergents don't form scum with hard water.

-soaps are sodium and magnesium salts whereas deters are ammonium and sulphonate salts -deters are better in cleaning action -soaps form foam whereas deters form better foam -soaps can form scum in hardwatwr whereas deters do not

Soaps are sodium salts of carboxilic acids. Ditergents are ammonium salts of carboxylic acids.
