Vaccination or a vaccine introduces a harmless ANTIGEN (weakened pathogen) into the body. Our immune system easily fights it off and develops ANTIBODIES and MEMORY CELLS against the microbe. Next time, when the actual microbe enters the body, the immune system recognises its antigen through memory cells and trigger production of antibodies, this fighting off the disease.
