Also there is no principle for potentiometer wire. You can use any suitable wire.

According to principle of potentiometer,potential difference across any length of wire is directly proportional to the length of that portion of wire.

The fall of potential across a given length of the wire is directly proportional to the length of the wire provided the wire is of uniform area of cross section and a constant current is flowing through it.
