Given equation is px(x - 2) + 6 = 0
{tex}\Rightarrow{/tex} px2 - 2px + 6 = 0
Comparing with ax2 + bx + c = 0, we have
a = p, b = -2p and c = 6
Since the roots are equal, we have
Discriminant, D = 0
{tex}\Rightarrow{/tex} b2 - 4ac = 0
{tex}\Rightarrow{/tex} (-2p)2 - 4(p)(6) = 0
{tex}\Rightarrow{/tex} 4p2 - 24p = 0
{tex}\Rightarrow{/tex} 4p(p - 6) = 0
{tex}\Rightarrow{/tex} 4p = 0 or p - 6 = 0
{tex}\Rightarrow{/tex} p = 6, If p = 0 then in given equation we have 6 = 0. Which is not possible.

So the required value of p is 6.
