As we know, speed= Distance travelled/Time taken

Suppose a wave travels a distance λ which is its wavelength in time T,

λ / T

Here T is the time taken by one wave. 1/T becomes the number of waves per second and is known as frequency of the wave.

Thus v = λ x f

i.e. Speed = Wavelength x Frequency
