There are three types of secondary structure- \u03b1 helix, \u03b2 pleated and collagen. In <strong>\u03b1 helix<\/strong>, the polypeptide chain is coiled spirally in right handed manner.<\/li>\n<li>In <strong>\u03b2 pleated<\/strong> secondary proteins two or more polypeptide chains are interconnected by hydrogen bonds. Eg. Hemoglobin. In adult human hemoglobin 4 sub-units are involved. The two subunits are of \u03b1 type and two subunits of \u03b2 types.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Nucleic Acid<\/strong>: Nucleic acids are polynucleotides. A nucleic acid has three chemically distinct components- heterocyclic compound ( nitrogenous base), polysaccharides ( ribose\/ deoxy-ribose sugar) and phosphate or phosphoric acid.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/media-mycbseguide.s3.amazonaws.com\/images\/static\/revise\/11\/biology\/11_Bio_ch09_09.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The sugar found in nucleic acid is either ribose or deoxyribose. Nucleic acid containing deoxyribose sugar is called DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid) and those containing ribose sugars are called RNA (Ribonucleic acid).<\/li>\n<li>Biomolecules are constantly being changed into some other biomolecules and also made from other biomolecules. This breaking and making is through chemical process called <strong>metabolism<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>In living organism, all the metabolic reactions are enzyme catalyzed. Catalysts are those substances that alter the rate of reaction. Respiration and digestion are examples of catabolic pathway.<\/li>\n<li>ATP (adenosine triphosphate) is the most important form of energy currency in living world.<\/li>\n<li>All living organism exist in steady state characterized by concentration of each of the metabolites. The living state is a non-equilibrium steady state to be able to perform work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Enzymes\"><\/span><strong>Enzymes<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Enzymes are commonly proteinaceous substances which are capable of catalysing chemical reactions of biological origin without themselves undergoing any change.
