{"id":71,"date":"2009-03-09T12:15:18","date_gmt":"2009-03-09T12:15:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mycbseguide.com\/blog\/?p=71"},"modified":"2016-11-29T13:15:00","modified_gmt":"2016-11-29T07:45:00","slug":"approach-to-the-internal-evaluation-of-disaster-management-unit-5-of-social-science","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mycbseguide.com\/blog\/approach-to-the-internal-evaluation-of-disaster-management-unit-5-of-social-science\/","title":{"rendered":"Approach to the Internal Evaluation of Disaster Management Unit 5 of Social Science"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Reference is made to circular no.15\/08 dated 11.04.2008 intimating the Board\u2019s decision to evaluate Disaster Management in Social Sciences of class X through projects from the academic session 2008-09 and the Board Examination 2009 in Social Science of class X.<br \/>\nThe Board has further decided that in addition to Project Work, Disaster Management will be evaluated through assignments also.\u00a0 For further, you can visit <a href=\"http:\/\/cbse.nic.in\">CBSE <\/a>official site or <a href=\"http:\/\/myCBSEguide.com\">myCBSEguide.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Following is the revised marks distribution over the three components:<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Tests \u2013 Formative and summative 10 marks<br \/>\n2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Assignments \u2013 class and Home \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 4 marks<!--more--><br \/>\n3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Project Work\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 6 marks<\/p>\n<p>Detailed guidelines in this regard are as follows :-<\/p>\n<p><strong>1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Tests &#8211; Formative and Summative:<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Unit\/ Term tests in Class X will not include testing of theory in Disaster Management. Other things remain the same and the marks will be allotted taking the average of student\u2019s performance in Class IX and also unit tests in Class X. Kindly refer to Board\u2019s Circular No.26\/05 dated 25.05.2005 in this respect.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Assignments \u2013 Class and Home<\/strong><br \/>\nHereafter, students are expected to do 4 different assignments in Social Science in Class X during an academic session. Out of these, one assignment must be from Disaster Management. All assignments would carry 1 mark each. The remaining three assignments can be given on the other components of Social Science as per discretion of the teacher after ensuring that questions cover all the units of Social Science syllabus and also no component of Social Science should carry more than one assignment.<br \/>\nThe purpose of the assignment in Disaster Management is to evaluate the students understanding of the different methods of managing disasters. These assignments could be based on the suggested activities in the textbook or through using diagrams, pictures, comprehension of texts and descriptions given in all the seven chapters of the CBSE textbook, \u2018Together Towards a Safer India, Part III\u2019. This assignment should be from any chapter other than that selected by the student for project work. Records of assignment done by the students should be kept for a period of six months after board\u2019s examination is over for verification.<\/p>\n<p><strong> 3. Project Work:<\/strong><br \/>\nEvery student has to compulsorily undertake one project on Disaster Management. A list of topics for project work is enclosed for ready reference in annexure 1. These projects have been carefully designed so as to \u2013<br \/>\na)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Create awareness in learners<br \/>\nb)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Enable them to understand and co-relate all aspects of Disaster Management.<br \/>\nc)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Relate theory with practice<br \/>\nd)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Provide hands on experience.<br \/>\nIn order to realize the expected objectives completely, it would be required of the Principals to muster support from various local authorities and organizations like the Disaster Management Authorities, Relief, Rehabilitation and the Disaster Management Departments of the States, Office of the District Magistrate\/ Deputy Commissioners, Fire Service, Police, Civil Defence etc. in the area where the schools are located. The textbook entitled \u201cTogether Towards a Safer India, Part III\u201d, by CBSE so far in use for theory examination is the recommended primary source for successfully carrying out the project work. The teachers must ensure judicious selection by students of projects covering a maximum number of listed projects.<br \/>\nThe revised distribution of marks over different aspects relating to Project Work is as follows:<\/p>\n<p><strong>S.NO.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 ASPECTS\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 MARKS<\/strong><br \/>\n1\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Content accuracy and originality\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 2<br \/>\n2\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Presentation and creativity\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 1<br \/>\n3\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Process of Project Completion : Initiative, cooperativeness, participation and punctuality\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 1<br \/>\n4\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Viva or written test for content assimilation.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 2<br \/>\nTotal marks for project in Class X\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 6<\/p>\n<p>The projects carried out by the students in different topics should subsequently be shared among themselves through interactive sessions such as exhibitions, panel discussions, etc. All documents pertaining to assessment under this activity should be meticulously maintained by concerned schools. A Summary Report should be prepared highlighting:<br \/>\no\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 objectives realized through individual or group interactions;<br \/>\no\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 calendar of activities;<br \/>\no\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 innovative ideas generated in this process ;<br \/>\no\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0list of questions asked in viva voce<br \/>\nand subsequently sent to the undersigned. It is to be noted here by all the teachers and students that the projects and models prepared should be made from eco friendly products without incurring too much expenditure. The Project Report should be handwritten by the students themselves and comprise of not more than 15 foolscap pages.
