This circular clearly states that the new marking scheme is applicable for classes 9 to 12 for the session 2022-23.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s analyze the complete circular and understand how this will affect the students.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Competency-Based_Questions\"><\/span>Competency-Based Questions<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In this <a href=\"https:\/\/cbseacademic.nic.in\/web_material\/Circulars\/2022\/57_Circular_2022.pdf\">CBSE circular<\/a>, the core focus is on Competency-Based Questions. CBSE had already adopted CBE (Competency Based Eduction 2-3 years back. But it was never applied in true spirit. Now, it seems that CBSE is giving more weightage to such questions. This exercise will definitely help the whole system override rote learning.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"CBSE_Circular_on_CBQ\"><\/span>CBSE Circular on CBQ<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Here is the complete text of this circular.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Assessment and Evaluation Practices of the Board for the Session 2022-23 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>National Education Policy 2020 has affirmed the need to move from rote to competency-based learning. This will equip the learners with key competencies to meet the challenges of the 21st century proactively. Accordingly, the Board has taken multiple steps toward the implementation of <a href=\"https:\/\/cbseacademic.nic.in\/cbe\/\">Competency-Based Education<\/a> (CBE) in schools. These range from aligning assessment to CBE, developing exemplar resources for teachers and students on CBE pedagogy and assessment and continued teacher capacity building.<\/p>\n<p>In this context, the Board has released Circular No. Acad-05\/2019 dated 18.01.2019; Circular No. Acad-11\/2019 dated 06.03.2019; Circular No. Acad-18\/2020 dated 16.03.2020; Circular No. Acad-32\/2020 dated 14.05.2020 and Circular No. Acad-31\/2020 dated 22.04.2021. In continuation to these circulars, the Board is initiating further corresponding changes in the Examination and Assessment practices for the year 2022- 23 to align assessment to Competency-Based Education.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, in the forthcoming sessions, a greater number of Competency-Based Questions or questions that assess the application of concepts in real-life\/ unfamiliar situations will be part of the question paper.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"CBSE_Marking_Scheme_2023_IX-X\"><\/span>CBSE Marking Scheme 2023 (IX-X)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Competency-Based Questions would be a minimum of 40% These can be in the form of Multiple Choice Questions, Case-based Questions, Source-based Integrated Questions or any other types.<\/li>\n<li>Objective Type Questions will be 20%<\/li>\n<li>Remaining 40% short answer\/long answer questions (as per the existing pattern)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Competency-Based_Questions-2\"><\/span>Competency-Based Questions<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Now CBSE will ask 40% competency-based questions. Competency-based education (CBE) is an approach to teaching, learning, and assessment that focuses on the student&#8217;s demonstration of learning outcomes and attaining proficiency in particular competencies in each subject. The question can be a diagram, table, statement-combination or labeling-based MCQ or objective-type question. Also, it can be part of a case-based question or source-based question.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Objective_Type_Questions\"><\/span>Objective Type Questions<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>There will be 20% objective-type questions. Here, an objective-type question doesn&#8217;t mean only MCQs. It may include a variety of questions such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assertion and Reason questions<\/li>\n<li>True and false questions<\/li>\n<li>Fill up questions<\/li>\n<li>Statement questions<\/li>\n<li>Multiple-choice questions<\/li>\n<li>Column Matching questions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Subjective_Questions\"><\/span>Subjective Questions<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Now the rest 40% will be short answers and long answers type subjective questions. Most probably, CBSE will not ask very short answer type general subjective questions. These may be a case study or source question. But most of the subjective questions will be short answer types or long answer types in nature.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"CBSE_Marking_Scheme_2023_XI-XII\"><\/span>CBSE Marking Scheme 2023 (XI-XII)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Competency-Based Questions would be minimum of 30% These can be in the form of Multiple Choice Questions, Case-based Questions, Source-based Integrated Questions or any other types.<\/li>\n<li>Objective Type Questions will be 20%<\/li>\n<li>Remaining 50% Short Answer\/Long Answer Questions (as per existing pattern)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Same as in classes 9-10, CBSE marking scheme for 11-12 has similar changes. Here, the weightage for competency-based questions is 30%, Objective type questions are 20% and the rest of 50% will be subjective-type questions.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Competency-Based_Assessment\"><\/span>Competency-Based Assessment<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>As discussed, CBSE will ask more competency-based questions this year.
