ABOUT KVPY:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The “Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana” is an ongoing programme started by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, to encourage students of Basic Sciences, Engineering and Medicine to take up research careers in these areas. The aim of the programme is to identify and encourage talented students with aptitude for research.<\/p>\n

This programme strives to assist the students to realise their potential and to ensure that the best scientific talent is tapped for research and development in the country. Generous scholarships will be provided (up to the pre-Ph.D. level) to the selected students.<\/p>\n

ELIGIBILITY<\/strong><\/p>\n

These Fellowships are only for Indian Nationals studying in India.<\/p>\n

Basic Sciences:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Stream SA: <\/strong>Students joining in the XI Standard (Science Subjects) during the academic year 2008-2009 and having secured a minimum of 75% (65% for SC\/ST) marks in aggregate in Mathematics and Science in the X Standard Board Examination.

\nStream SB: <\/strong>Students pursuing First Year B.Sc. degree \/ M.Sc. Integrated (UG Programme) in Basic Sciences during the academic year 2008-2009 and having secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC\/ST) marks in aggregate in Mathematics and Science subjects in the XII Standard Board Examination.<\/p>\n

Stream SB+2: <\/strong>\u201cStudents of Class 12 (+2) of the academic year 2008 – 2009 who are aspiring to join IISER for Integrated M. S programme for the session August 2009 may also take the KVPY Aptitude Test for the SB Stream provided they secure a minimum of 75% marks (65% for SC\/ST) aggregate in Mathematics and Science subjects in X Standard Board Examination

\nStream SP(Basic Sciences): <\/strong>Students pursuing XI, XII standard, First or Second year of any UG programme in Basic Sciences during the academic year 2008 \u2013 2009 and having secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC\/ST) marks aggregate in X Standard and XII Standard Board examination may apply by completing a science based research project. The report of the project, chosen and executed by the applicant and supervised by a teacher\/professional in the relevant field, to be submitted along with the application. Based on the project submitted and scrutiny of application forms, short listed candidates will be called for an interview, which is the final stage of the selection procedure. The interview will be conducted at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore during the month of December 2008 or first week of January 2009. Application without the project report will not be considered.<\/p>\n

Note for Students applying for Science Stream SP (Basic Sciences)<\/strong><\/p>\n

This has been started in order to programme to recognize and encourage creative and innovative talent of youngsters pursuing Science. The project carried out as part of this application should be based on novel and innovative ideas. The project can be experimental or theoretical in nature. However, the project must show that the applicant is creative and adventurous, and ready to explore. The project should not merely reflect use of certain techniques or reporting of routine experimentation improvement of an existing product or a technique may be accepted provided such improvement involves original ideas and creativity. One may try to incorporate some addition to the design or practical implementation that improves an existing technique. The main criteria that would be followed for selection for the interview would be originality and innovation. Only after these criteria are met, the level of sophistication and the nature of the project would be taken into consideration.<\/p>\n

Olympiad<\/strong>
\nStudents who represent India in the International Olympiads Physics\/Chemistry\/Biology \/Mathematics\/Informatics and Astronomy in 2008 will automatically qualify for KVPY Fellowship provided they complete X \/ XII Standard Board Examination by 2008 and continue studying in science subjects.<\/p>\n

\nSELECTION PROCEDURE<\/strong><\/p>\n

Basic Sciences (SA and SB)<\/strong><\/p>\n

After scrutiny of application forms and based on the performance in the Board Examination, aall the eligible candidates from Streams SA and SB will be called for a written aptitude test (multiple choice). The test will be conducted at different centers across the country on 2nd\u00a0 November 2008 (First Sunday). The details of the venue of the aptitude tests will be put on KVPY web to the in October 2008. Based on the performance in the aptitude test candidates\u00a0 will be called for an interview which is the final stage of the selection procedure.<\/p>\n

Sciences (SP); SP (Engineering) and SP (Medicine) <\/strong><\/p>\n

KVPY applicant is required to submit the project report, chosen and executed by the candidate exclusively for this application. The projects done jointly with other candidates are not considered for KVPY Fellowship award. Applicant\u2019s creativity and originality should be amply reflected in the project. This project has to be supervised by a teacher\/professional in the relevant field. Based on the project submitted and scrutiny of application forms, short listed candidates will be called for an interview, which is the final stage of the selection procedure. The interview will be conducted either at IISc, Bangalore or IIT-Bombay, Mumbai or ICMR, New Delhi during the month of December 2008 or first week of January 2009.<\/p>\n

Please Note that applications without the project report will not be considered. The project should not be a routine one (such as measuring well known property of materials etc.) The supervising teacher \/ professional is required to provide a recommendation letter certifying the extent of the applicant\u2019s original contribution to the project.<\/p>\n

APPLICATION PROCEDURE<\/strong><\/p>\n

Request for Application Form<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n<\/strong>a. <\/span> <\/strong>Each Stream has its own application form. Students who wish to apply for more than one Stream should submit separate applications.<\/p>\n

b. Applicants may apply either by Hard copy or Online. (www.iisc.ernet.in\/kvpy).<\/p>\n

c. Application forms may be down loaded from the KVPY website. Those who are unable to do so, may request for a Hard Copy.<\/p>\n

d. Hard copy of the application form can be obtained from KVPY on request by sending a processing fee of Rs. 200\/- (Rs. 100\/- for SC\/ST) by means of remitting Rs. 200 (Rs. 100\/- for SC\/ST) \u201c<\/strong>to any core \t\t\t\tbanking branches of STATE BANK OF INDIA<\/strong>, payable at \t\t\t\tall branches in India<\/strong>. Paid into the credit of Administrative Executive, KVPY A\/c. No.<\/strong> 10270577392<\/strong>\u201d \t\t\t\tand send the \u201cpay-in-slip<\/a>\u201d<\/strong> along with the request, \t\t\t\tclearly indicating the stream (i.e.SA, SB, SP etc.) on the <\/span>envelope <\/span><\/p>\n

e. The SC\/ST \u2013 candidates should provide a copy of the caste certificate issued by a competent authority in the prescribed proforma.<\/p>\n

f. The completed application form along with the<\/p>\n

1. Caste certificate in the case of SC\/ST candidate<\/p>\n

2. Project report in the case of SP\/Basic Sciences\/ \t\t\t\tEngineering\/ Medicine<\/p>\n

3. copy of the marks statement of the qualifying \t\t\t\texamination(s), in the case of SP (Engineering), SP(Medicine).<\/p>\n

4. Processing fee of Rs. 200\/- (Rs. 100\/- for SC\/ST) should reach KVPY on or \t\t\t\tbefore 12.9.08 (Friday).<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

g. KVPY will not be responsible for postal delays in \t\t\t\treceiving completed application.<\/p>\n

h. Last date for receipt of the request for an application \t\t\t\tform.<\/p>\n
