The CBSE in collaboration with the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MoHRD), Ministry\u00a0of Urban Development (MoUD) and GIZ (formerly known as GTZ) has introduced the \u2018National\u00a0School Sanitation Initiative\u2019 with the aim is to inculcate good sanitation habits among the school\u00a0children in order to inspire, acquaint and celebrate excellence towards School Sanitation at the\u00a0National Level.The CBSE\u2019s Comprehensive School Health Manuals also address the issue of Sanitation in Schools.<\/p>\n

Sanitation is one of the six areas and themes that have been identified for a school to improve its\u00a0performance in its objective of becoming a Health Promoting School. These six themes are:<\/p>\n

  1. Food and Nutrition,<\/li>\n
  2. Knowing Your Body,<\/li>\n
  3. Personal, Environmental Hygiene and Sanitation.<\/li>\n
  4. Behaviour and Life Skills,<\/li>\n
  5. Physical Fitness and<\/li>\n
  6. Being Responsible and Safe.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Accordingly, Online School Sanitation Ratings have been instituted with the purpose of\u00a0recognizing those schools who are taking significant steps towards effective sanitation and\u00a0improvement in service delivery leading to the desired behavioural and attitudinal changes\u00a0towards hygiene & sanitation. The Sanitation Ratings are expected to infuse the required\u00a0dynamism in the schools towards sanitation management.<\/p>\n

    As furtherance to the National School Sanitation Ratings it has been decided by the Ministry of\u00a0Human Resource Development, Government of India to institute National School Sanitation\u00a0Awards on annual basis for those schools who have been rated online for sanitation and taken\u00a0noteworthy steps towards betterment of the sanitation scenario in their schools in varied ways.<\/p>\n

    The parameters and categories for the Awards are given in the National School Sanitation\u00a0Manual. These Awards are open to all school affiliated to CBSE which include Kendriya Vidyalayas,\u00a0Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, Government Schools, Private Independent Schools, DAV Schools,\u00a0CTSA Schools, Army Schools etc.<\/p>\n

    Awards will be given in the following categories which the schools can take up as part of Health\u00a0& Wellness Clubs as well as the Eco-Clubs:-<\/p>\n
