The novels Guliver&#8217;s Travel and Three men in a boat have been discontinued this year. Now the 8 mark long question will be asked from the text book. There will be no question from novels this year onwards.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"New_Poem_Added_to_the_syllabus\"><\/span>New Poem Added to the syllabus<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Last year, 9 poems were part of syllabus but this year CBSE has added one new poem to class 9 English Language and literature syllabus. Now students have to study 10 poems. The new poem added is\u00a0<strong>A Slumber did My Spirit Seal<\/strong>. The questions will be thematically based on the prescribed books.\u00a08 marks<\/li>\n<li>Q. 4: Writing a short story based on a given outline or cue\/s in about 150 &#8211; 200\u00a0words. 10 marks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Grammar syllabus will include the following areas in class IX :<br \/>\n1. Tenses<br \/>\n2. Modals<br \/>\n3. Use of passive voice<br \/>\n4. Subject \u2013 verb concord<br \/>\n5. Reporting\u00a0Commands and requests,\u00a0Statements, Questions<br \/>\n6. Clauses:\u00a0(i) Noun clauses\u00a0(ii) Adverb clauses of condition and time\u00a0(iii) Relative clauses<br \/>\n7. Determiners<br \/>\n8. Prepositions<br \/>\nThe above items may be tested through test types(grammar in context) as given\u00a0below:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Q. 5: Gap filling with one or two words to test Prepositions, Articles, Conjunctions and\u00a0Tenses. 4 marks<\/li>\n<li>Q. 6: Editing or omission 4 marks<\/li>\n<li>Q. 7: Sentences reordering or sentence transformation in context. 4 marks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"SECTION_C_LITERATURE_TEXTBOOKS\"><\/span>SECTION C: LITERATURE TEXTBOOKS<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>There will be 30 Marks to be covered in 60 Periods<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Q. 8. One out of two extracts from prose\/poetry\/play for reference to the context.\u00a0Four Very Short Answer Questions: two questions of one mark each on global\u00a0comprehension and two questions of one mark each on interpretation. (1&#215;4=4\u00a0marks)<\/li>\n<li>Q.9. Five Short Answer Type Questions from BEEHIVE AND MOMENTS (3 questions\u00a0from BEEHIVE and 2 questions from MOMENTS) to test local and global\u00a0comprehension of theme and ideas (30-40 words each) 2&#215;5 = 10 marks<\/li>\n<li>Q.10. One out two long answer type questions from the book BEEHIVE to assess\u00a0Creativity, imagination and extrapolation beyond the text and across the texts.\u00a0(100-150 words) 8 marks<\/li>\n<li>Q.11. One out of two Long Answer Questions from the book MOMENTS on theme or plot\u00a0involving interpretation, extrapolation beyond the text and inference or character\u00a0sketch in about 100-150 words.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Prescribed_Books_for_class_9_English\"><\/span>Prescribed Books for class 9 English<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The books are Published by NCERT, New Delh<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>BEEHIVE \u2013 Textbook for class IX<\/li>\n<li>MOMENTS \u2013 Supplementary Reader for Class IX<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>NOTE: Teachers are advised to:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Encourage classroom interaction among peers, students and teachers through\u00a0activities such as role play, group work etc.<\/li>\n<li>Reduce teacher-talk time and keep it to the minimum,<\/li>\n<li>Take up questions for discussion to encourage pupils to participate and to\u00a0marshal their ideas and express and defend their views.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Besides measuring attainment, texts serve the dual purpose of diagnosing\u00a0mistakes and areas of non-learning.
