The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has launched three new Vocational courses for this academic session which is applicable for 10+2 students. The three new courses are Mass media and film appreciation, Geo-spatial practices and hospitality, will be formally launched on July 19 and 20 in New Delhi.<\/p>\n

There are 40 vocational subjects provided by CBSE. The list of all subjects can be seen at myCBSEguide<\/a><\/p>\n

Vocational courses necessity<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Vocational training should be considered an important aspect of education and development to make students apt for a job and secure his future in early stage. Vocational subjects can also be termed as job-oriented education as it helps a person in becoming skilled in a particular field. Many vocational training institutes offer certain life skills and English speaking courses along with a selected vocational stream which can serve as a great alternative for students.<\/p>\n

Vocational courses are becoming more and more popular year by year.\u00a0 The New Education policy clearly spells out that vocational courses should be introduced in schools and colleges all over the country in higher secondary. Students can opt for these courses in Class XI as one of the main five subjects.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe three new courses have been introduced to help nurture the interest and talent of students. The courses have been designed keeping in mind the demand for skilled manpower in the industries,\u201d said a senior CBSE official.<\/p>\n

The course on mass media will be considered an academic subject but those on Geo-spatial practices and hospitality will come under the vocational subjects category. Initially, some schools in metros like Delhi and Mumbai will offer the courses, which are part of a pilot project of the Board.<\/p>\n

Some schools offering these courses in Delhi and the National Capital Region are Springdales School(Pusa Road), Modern School(Vasant Vihar), Salwan Public School(Gurgaon).<\/p>\n

Springdales School, Pusa Road, which will offer the mass media and film appreciation course as part of the Humanities stream, has a lot of enthusiastic takers. \u201cI have spoken to students and parents about the course and they are really keen on studying it. It has a very interesting curriculum,\u201d said principal Amita Wattal.<\/p>\n

Salwan Public School(Gurgaon), will offer both mass media and Geo-spatial practices courses. \u201cThe introduction of the new courses will give students a wider choice and help them channalise their interests better,\u201d said Principal Indu Khetrapal.<\/p>\n

However, principals said a lot has to be done to make these courses useful for students. \u201cStudents should be able to find employment immediately after finishing the course. Also, for college admissions, these subjects are not counted, so scoring well does not really help the student,\u201d said Wattal.<\/p>\n
