Use of chemical fertilisers has increased tremendously with the introduction of new crop varieties.<strong>Fertiliser<\/strong>: The inorganic compounds containing nutrients such as nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus. They are made in the factories. Example: Urea, ammonium sulphate, potash, etc.<strong>Manure<\/strong>: A natural substance prepared from decomposition of plant and animal wastes (cow dung, animal bones, dead leaves, dead insects and vegetable wastes) by the action of microbes.(iv)\u00a0 <strong>Irrigation :<\/strong> \u00a0Supply of water to crops at appropriate intervals is called irrigation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Method of Irrigation<\/strong>:<br \/>\n(a) Tradition methods of Irrigation: Moat, Chain pump, Dheki, Rahat.<br \/>\n(b)\u00a0Modern methods of Irrigation: Sprinkler system, Drip system.<\/p>\n<p>(v)<strong>\u00a0Protection from Weeds:\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Weeding involves removal of unwanted and uncultivated plants called weeds.<\/p>\n<p>(vi)\u00a0<strong>Harvesting: \u00a0<\/strong>Harvesting is the cutting of the mature crop manually or by machines.<\/p>\n<p>(vii)\u00a0<strong>Storage\u00a0<\/strong>Proper storage of grains is necessary to protect them from pests and microorganisms.Harvested food grains normally contain more moisture than required for \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0storage. Large scale of storage of grains is done in silos and granaries to protect them from \u00a0pest like rats and insects. Farmers store grains in jute bags or metallic bins.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Food is also obtained\u00a0 from animals for which animals are reared.
