The epidermis is a single layer of cells that covers the leaves, flowers, roots and stem of plants.It forms a boundary between the plant and the eternal environment It serves against water loss, regulates gas exchange absorbs water and mineral nutrients etc. The stem and leaf epidermis is covered with pores called stomata containing guard cells and two to four subsidiary cells . This stomata complex regulates the exchange of water and gas.
