Ans. (1) Saponification is an exothermic reaction. This is because heat is liberated during the process.
(2) No. Saponifaication is not a neutralisation reaction. Neutralisation reaction is the reaction of acid with base and the product formed is salt with a water molecule. But saponification reaction does not involve formation of water molecule. Saponification is a hydrolysis reaction .
