CBSE will celebrate GANIT (Growing Aptitude in Numerical Innovations & Training) Week from 16th to 22nd December 2014 in all schools affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education in remembrance of the birth anniversary of great mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan (22nd December 1887). CBSE has issued a circular to heads of all CBSE schools on 8th December 2014 regarding celebration of GANIT week. The circular emphases on importance of Mathematics and suggested some activities to be conducted during GANIT week in all schools.

Mathematics has played a very important role in building up modern civilization. Sh. Srinivasa Ramanujan (22 December 1887 – 26 April 1920), a genius mathematician, made extraordinary contributions to mathematical analysis, number theory, infinite series, and fractions.
To commemorate the birth anniversary of Sh. Srinivasa Ramanujan and to actively promote interest of students in Mathematics and its application by promoting Mathematics, the schools affiliated to CBSE shall celebrate GANIT (Growing Aptitude in Numerical Innovations & Training) Week from 16th to 22nd December 2014.
The study of Mathematics leads to logical and analytical thinking and its learning and teaching enables better understanding of sciences and spirit behind the GANIT week is to make the study of Mathematics more interesting and reduce the fear of learning the subject.

The schools shall conduct the following activities during the GANIT Week:
16.12.2014: Lecture on Mathematics by Eminent scientists
17.12.2014 :Essay Writing Competitions
18.12.2014: Quiz Competitions
19.12.2014: Experience sharing on innovation by teachers and students
20.12.2014: Screening of films produced by Vigyan Prasar
22.12.2014: Origami and poster competition to be followed by a formal culmination function

The report of activities conducted by the schools during the GANIT week must be uploaded on the school’s website and a short report highlighting the activities may be sent to Sh.
